Flemish style G pipes made by Bodo Schulz

Flemish style “Schäferpfeife” bagpipes in G made by Bodo Schulz with a wonderfully sweet, warm and mellow sound for sale. These pipes have been regularly played and looked after with much care and love. They also have had a recent service and maintenance check-up by the maker last year in September. A couple of details:

  • Two drones in g (high drone sounding the octave)
  • played with half-closed fingering
  • range of f – c’ (as with Borderpipes or Cornemuse du Centre in G)
  • wild service tree wood and cowhide leather bag
  • plastic reeds

Asking price is £690 (original price £1385 with significant waiting time) though I’ll consider a reasonable offer, plus courier postage from London.

I can send more pictures and sound recordings if requested and I’ll also be at the 2025 Blowout and can show the pipes to anyone interested in seeing them and trying them out there.

Jon Swayne mouth blown student Border Pipes in G with 2 drones

I bought these wonderful pipes three years ago to add to my Leicestershire small pipes that I already played a lot. Unfortunately, I’m not now finding the places to play the Border Pipes and need to sadly part with them!

I play many other instruments and need the money to go towards replacing a trumpet I play all the time.

They are in excellent, pretty much as new, condition.

Jon Swayne has new ones for sale on his web site for £1,100.

If you’re interested, please contact me and I can send photos and any other information you would like. I’m open to offers in excess of £850. Postage to be agreed.

Blackwood Highland Pipes by Joe Hagan, Clan Bagpipes

2025-02-11

A full set of blackwood Highland bagpipes which were made by Joe Hagan of Edinburgh in 1988 when he was trading as Clan Bagpipes. They have a fabulous well-rounded tone as befits pipes made in this era.

The Bagpipe Museum says:

‘Joe Hagan hand-made bagpipes, one at a time. He was said to have worked at Henderson Bagpipes, R G Lawrie Bagpipes, J & R Glen, and Grainger and Campbell Bagpipes before opening Clan Bagpipes on his own. He later moved on to Bagpipes Galore, however has since retired. His bagpipes reflects Old World skill and careful attention to detail.’

With these sets you have a choice of a blackwood chanter made by Joe Hagan or a Shepherd plastic chanter (easier to tune when playing with other pipers).

£675. Full working set with blackwood chanter or Shepherd plastic chanter, Canmore inner pipe bag and carry case.

They come with a full set of reeds (the chanter reed is initialled and dated by Colin Ross) and the original pipe box they came in which is lined with red crushed velvet. This set is in excellent condition and is available to view and try in Bedfordshire England. Please feel free to contact me for more information about them and their history.

Technopipes by Fagerstom - French or Northumbrian fingering

2025-01-28

Great for practising without annoying the people next door, or even in the same room or railway carriage – but you do get some odd looks!

Dual capability, it can be set up to simulate either French bagpipes fingering or Northumbrian Small Pipes. This was a special order as it is not one of the standard builds. It runs off a single AAA battery, and works fine with re-chargeable ones.

Comes complete with a travel tube, unused MIDI interface cable and instruction manual.

This is the earlier model similar to that shown on the Fagerstrom website as the Technopipes (discontinued). https://www.fagerstrom.com/technopipes/index.html

Note: It is an even earlier model and does not have ‘authentic bagpipe sounds’ mentioned on the Fagerstrom website, it is an electronic beep, which to be honest I have not found to be a problem for solo practice. I have checked with Anders and no upgrade to the bagpipe sound is possible

Very good condition: £150 including 48 hour tracked postage.

Askomandoura – Cretan bagpipe

2024-07-03

A rare opportunity to dive into the exhilarating world of tsambouna playing, with this Cretan askomandoura made by Antonis Stefanakis in 2013. I had every good intention of learning these, but time, sadly, had other ideas, so they need a better home. Ideal for beginner or seasoned player alike.

  • twin chanters, with single reeds, can be played in unison (as is traditional in Crete), or to create harmonies
  • eye-catching and stylish orange goatskin bag
  • chanter binding replaced by Mike York, to allow easy access to the reeds
  • wild, captivating sound
