Blackwood Highland Pipes by Henry Starcke, London, 1953

A full set of blackwood Highland bagpipes made by Henry Starcke, London in 1953. Great sound. I am the original owner and can no longer play. Chrome-plated rings; imitation ivory on drones & bottom of chanter. Includes original blackwood chanter and a plastic (delrin?) chanter. Set includes 1 plastic and two rosewood practise chanters, one by Henry Starcke. Spare reeds: 9 plastic reeds for practise chanter; 9 cane reeds for pipe chanter; 2 bass drone cane and 3 tenor drone cane reeds; 2 small containers of bag dressing/seasoning.

Full working set with blackwood chanter, sturdy solid wood carry case.

Willing to ship anywhere within the USA or to Canada via your choice of carrier or by special arrangement (if you know how to do that).

Scottish smallpipes in D built by Kees van Gils

Set of Scottish smallpipes in D built by Kees van Gils. 3 drones, the middle one can be tuned to G or A.

The builder did a full workup and installed new reeds 5 years ago.

Sounds great, plays well, everything in working order. Video available on request.

Full set of bellows blown Border Bagpipes in Low D by Jon Swayne (bellows not included)

Much loved set of pipes being sold to liberate funds for further bagpipe adventures. Plum wood with horn mounts, three drones (in D), including drone switch, chanter switch and the ‘classic’ swan-neck geometry. Pipes were serviced in 2024 when I had them converted from a somewhast ridiculous five drones into a more manageable three. This required a new bag and drone stock, and they are working fabulously. They have that lush, sonourous, Swayne sound, ideal for late night mazurkas and also many English tunes. Bellows are not included so you will have to purchase some from Jon if you require them. There is slight chip from the horn mount at the chanter bell acquired during some now forgotten night of madness and revellry.

Snap them up now and avoid a two year wait. £1750.

G Pipes with 2 drones by Jon Swayne with hard case

Mouthblown student pipes. In excellent condition, pretty much as new.

The usual brilliant Jon Swayne quality – pipes are made of applewood.

The pipes come in a handy hardcase made by Pipe Line. They call it a “Doedelzak Koffer” which can double up as a rucksack for easy carrying.

Bagpipe and hardcase are being sold together for £995. Postage to be agreed.

Uilleann pipes by Noel Dutton

Uilleann pipes built by a Noel Dutton. There is a reed with it, looks ok, but I can’t get it working, so no sound sample is available.

Bought just before Corona, but never got around to playing it. Chanter looks good, Bellows look good. Bag looks cheap, but is airtight.

Musette Béchonnet in F by Jon Swayne

This is one of a kind, the only Béchonnet Jon has made. Lovely deep resonant tone. Fairly recently serviced by Jon (including a new bag etc) and in fantastic playing condition. Bellows blown (bellows not included), although it has been mouthblown in the recent past so could be reconverted. Only selling because I’m focussing on cabrette.

Jon Swayne mouth blown student Border Pipes in G with 2 drones

I bought these wonderful pipes three years ago to add to my Leicestershire small pipes that I already played a lot. Unfortunately, I’m not now finding the places to play the Border Pipes and need to sadly part with them!

I play many other instruments and need the money to go towards replacing a trumpet I play all the time.

They are in excellent, pretty much as new, condition.

Jon Swayne has new ones for sale on his web site for £1,100.

Blackwood Highland Pipes by Joe Hagan, Clan Bagpipes

A full set of blackwood Highland bagpipes which were made by Joe Hagan of Edinburgh in 1988 when he was trading as Clan Bagpipes. They have a fabulous well-rounded tone as befits pipes made in this era.

The Bagpipe Museum says:

‘Joe Hagan hand-made bagpipes, one at a time. He was said to have worked at Henderson Bagpipes, R G Lawrie Bagpipes, J & R Glen, and Grainger and Campbell Bagpipes before opening Clan Bagpipes on his own. He later moved on to Bagpipes Galore, however has since retired. His bagpipes reflects Old World skill and careful attention to detail.’

With these sets you have a choice of a blackwood chanter made by Joe Hagan or a Shepherd plastic chanter (easier to tune when playing with other pipers).

Colin Ross Smallpipes

‘Colin Ross was a very fine maker of Northumbrian pipes, Scottish small pipes and border pipes. He is credited with being the primary inventor of modern-era Scottish small pipes.’

I have a set of Collin Ross Scottish Small pipes with a B flat chanter. The drones also TUNE TO AN ‘A’ CHANTER. These pipes have a fabulous well rounded mellow tone which befits a set made and sold in December 1989.

They come with a full set of reeds (the chanter reed is initialled and dated by Colin Ross) and the original pipe box they came in which is lined with red crushed velvet. This set is in excellent condition and is available to view and try in Bedfordshire England. Please feel free to contact me for more information about them and their history.
