Grace Notes

Welcome to Spring 2024 and another volume of Chanter, the 38th. This particular edition marks my 10th anniversary as editor! I never thought, when I volunteered to take on the role, that I would still be doing it ten years later and the way it’s looking, I think that I may well still be in post for a while longer yet. (Any volunteers out there?) I thoroughly enjoy the job (well, for the most part), and I have learned more than I ever thought possible about bagpipes and I’ve visited so many different countries, cultures, traditions and musical styles along the way. But mostly I’ve enjoyed working with the contributors and I will be forever grateful to all the people who I’ve cajoled (they may say ‘press-ganged’) into writing for me over the years and have come up trumps to deliver material for me. I’m always very proud of the finished product and, all these years on, it still amazes me just how much text is required for each edition. It can sometimes be a close-run thing to fill all the space but it somehow comes together at the last minute. Thank you too, to all the people who take the trouble to contact me after a Chanter comes out, it’s so good to get personal feedback.
